Estate Agents $70m Boost

Fatcat

Real estate agents are dubbed "fat cats" in a weekend newspaper article saying they've earned an extra $70m in commissions this year - money that buyMyplace wants in your pockets instead. Why feed the fat cats when you can sell it yourself with buyMyplace and save - up to $20,000 on average?

The Sunday Herald Sun article by property editor Caroline James quotes buyer advocate Catherine Cashmore saying agents have admitted to working less for more money this year because of the housing price boom.

She criticised agents for being "lazy" and "not wanting to do any legwork". That's nothing new to us at buyMyplace, nor our happy customers. We've been helping homeowners ditch the fat cats, take control, sell it themselves and save. The article says agencies typically earn about 2.5 per cent of a home's sale price.

This year, according to Real Estate Industry of Victoria figures, 11,480 properties worth $6.28 billion were sold in Victoria - amounting to $157 million in commission. This is up from about $89 million at the same time last year. Or an extra $68 million in agents' pockets. Stop feeding the fat cats. Sell it yourself and save.
