Selling your home privately could be the "ultimate DIY", journalist Derryn Hinch says.
He discussed the booming private sales revolution sweeping Australia and the buyMyplace process on his top-rating 3AW Drive show on March 30.
Fed up with real estate agents underquoting or overcharging, Hinch wanted to know why more and more homeowners were choosing to take control of the sales process themselves. BuyMyplace general manager Peter Lucas told Hinch that homeowners were ditching agents in record numbers to save thousands of dollars in commissions and marketing costs. And to get better results – and faster.
Listener and single mother Jill told Hinch during talkback that selling her house privately was "the easiest thing I've done". She said she got a good price "that the agents couldn't believe". She chose to sell privately because she didn't want to pay "all that commission". "Buyers love to talk to people who own the house," she said. "I would never use a real estate agent."
The interview with buyMyplace's Peter Lucas starts after the 4.30pm news about 40 minutes into the program. Have a listen .
